Setting the Mood – mX newspaper, Valentine’s Day article

“It’s that time of year again. The time when you either:

a) Wish you’d flirted a lot/the right way so you had someone to spend Valentine’s Day with;
b) You have a partner and it’s early days so you’re really excited at the prospect;
c) You’ve spent many a Valentine’s Day with the one you love and you’re over it;
or d) None of the above  you’re single. And not phased.
And you’re not even thinking about Cupid or that person in your office who just got a bunch of flowers delivered, because you know that it’s all totally commercialised anyway.
But you can leave all that at the door and make Valentine’s Day just for you.
So, here are some novel tips about what you can do for yourself this Valentine’s Day (hopefully your partner is worrying about the rest).

PRE-V-DAY
Firstly, take the day off work. Kidding! Well, not really, but perhaps just focus on how to have a stress-free day before it even begins.
Get yourself prepared on Sunday night so you’re not rushing in the morning.
Being prepared helps you go with the (slow) flow in the morning.
Get yourself a sassy/dashing (not provocative) outfit together. Look a treat.  And work it - know that you look hotter than a thousand suns.

AT WORK
Monday is a day for treating yourself, and by treats I do indeed mean treats.
Bring some to work and share them.
It’s always fun when someone brings in a cake for their birthday, (weird rule) so why not do it on Valentine’s Day?
It will put a smile on the faces you see every day and the sugar rush will boost morale. Plus, the compliments will be a welcome ego boost.
Throughout the day  whether you get flowers or not  smile at the people you encounter (especially the grumpy ones). You can never underestimate the positive power of a smile for others and yourself.

MOOD LIGHTING
Once you’ve made it through the working day (if you even went), it’s time to be yourself in your own space.
There is an art to self-indulgence. It’s not about gluttony (that will just give you the guilts), it’s about getting on the rewards program.
Whether it’s with your friends, your lover or yourself, dinner over candlelight is a reward for the soul.
There’s a reason candlelight goes hand-in-hand with love, especially if the candle is made of beeswax.
To make a pound of wax, bees visit about 30 million flowers. If that isn’t love, I don’t know what is.
Beeswax is believed to have magical properties that dissolve negativity.
The candles burn long and clean and the light honey scent is uplifting without being overpowering.

EVENING ACTION
You’re ready to connect with your body (or someone else’s).
If you’re on your own, I have three suggestions:
-Pump up the tunes, take the fridge magnet’s advice and dance like nobody is watching.
-Treat mind and body to an energising yoga session. Getting into down-faced dog makes you feel more vibrant and alive. People are attracted to energy so it is great for your love life.
-Let your mind wander and explore your fantasies. Recent scientific research has found that frequent orgasms are good for your mental health.
For couples, take things back a step, keep your clothes on and get your pash on.
Remember the times when you were crushing out on each other and those feelings will flutter back.
Kissing is a stress-reliever. It relieves tension, reduces negative energy and produces a sense of well being.
So, why the focus on oneself? Because we need self-love and it helps us bring love to others, all year round.
